چکیده

A new method for magnetic separation of cells is described. Based on cellular concentration of complexed paramagnetic cations from a carrier solution, the method achieves highly repeatable separations, at lower magnetization fields, than existing HGMS cell-separation methods. Feasibility has been shown for erbium and dysprosium, with whole blood as the sample. Single-pass magnetic separation efficiencies significantly greater than those attainable with paramagnetic erythrocytic hemoglobin are readily available, e.g., 90% versus 37%, at 0.3 Tesla and 0.75dImin flow rate. The method requires no cellular incubations, is not technically demanding, and does not visibly affect cellular integrity; it promises to provide a flexible and general technique for cell separation.

The solution structure of supramolecular lanthanide triple helices revisited: application of crystal-field independent paramagnetic NMR techniques to mono- and di-metallic complexes†

Pyridine-containing tridentate binding units react with trivalent lanthanide ions, Ln, to give C3-symmetrical nine-coordinate triple helical complexes in which subtle intramolecular interactions control the final structures. While X-ray crystal structures allow some rationalisation in the solid state, the access to solution structures by paramagnetic NMR is limited by the unpredictable variatio...

Optimization of time-resolved fluorescence assay for detection of europium-tetraazacyclododecyltetraacetic acid-labeled ligand-receptor interactions.

Lanthanide-based luminescent ligand binding assays are superior to traditional radiolabel assays due to improving sensitivity and affordability in high-throughput screening while eliminating the use of radioactivity. Despite significant progress using lanthanide(III)-coordinated chelators such as diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) derivatives, dissociation-enhanced lanthanide fluoroimmun...

Development of new double-stranded phenylalanyl chelators using eta-chi diagrams and binding constants for chelators and lanthanide ions.

We examined the interaction between several ligands and alkaline (M(+)) or lanthanide (Ln(3+)) ions using eta-chi diagrams. eta and chi represent absolute hardness and absolute electronegativity, respectively. Based on the diagrams, new double-stranded amino acid chelators (1) conjugated to Cat (catechol) were synthesized. They had two cavities coordinating hard metal ions, such as Li(+) and K(...

Modeling the chemical shift of lanthanide 4 f electron binding energies

Lanthanides in compounds can adopt the tetravalent [Xe]4f n−1 (like Ce4+, Pr4+, Tb4+), the trivalent [Xe]4f n (all lanthanides), or the divalent [Xe]4f n+1 configuration (like Eu2+, Yb2+, Sm2+, Tm2+). The 4f -electron binding energy depends on the charge Q of the lanthanide ion and its chemical environment A. Experimental data on three environments (i.e., the bare lanthanide ions where A = vacu...

Challenging conventional f-element separation chemistry--reversing uranyl(VI)/lanthanide(III) solvent extraction selectivity.

The water soluble tetradentate Schiff base, N,N'-bis(5-sulfonatosalicylidene)-diaminoethane (H2salen-SO3), will readily coordinate to the uranyl(VI) cation, but not to the same extent to trivalent lanthanide cations. This allows for the reversal of conventional solvent extraction properties and opens the possibility for novel separation processes.
